Thailand's Best Diving
The Similan Islands

The Similan Islands are located about 50 Kilometers West of Khao Lak in the Andaman Sea. They are composed of nine granite islands washed by a clear blue tropical ocean and blessed with some of the world’s finest beaches. As part of the Similan National Park are also the geologically separate limestone islands of Koh Bon and Koh Tachai. Located nearby is also the unique and world-famous Richelieu Rock.

Featuring the largest diversity of marine life in Thailand with huge pelagics - Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, Sharks, Tunas, passing whales, Dolphins and even the occasional Orca (It's true - we have pictures!). Hundreds of species call the Similan Islands home - but no humans! They are uninhabited. The unique ecosystem and located very close tot he continental shelf assures divers of the best diving in Thailand.

 Day Trips

With the very best dive sites in thailand - The Similan Islands have many options for divers.

Daytrips run from Khao Lak and do 2 dives. Usually this involves time on the white sand beaches lazing and exploring. Lunch is included and makes for great single day outing. Great way for the snorkelers and non-divers to join in the trips. There are operators that try to offer day trips from Phuket, but they simply drive their guests 90 minutes to Khao Lak then join the boats - don't waste your time. The daytrip option does give you the chance to stay in resorts each night and all the comforts that Khao Lak offers (and there are many).

Liveaboards

Unless you are short on time - the best way to see the Similans is via Liveaboard.  Spending 3,4 or even 6 days visiting the islands gives you the best sampling of the great diversity. Sleeping on the boats with other divers you'll review the dives of the day, watch the sunsets and even do night dives.

These trips give you the chance to be with the same group for days - making friends and shared memories. In addition the Similan Liveaboard option is a perfect place to increase your skills - doing courses while diving Thailand's best dive sites.

Overnight Tours

A very nice option is to do overnight trips where you can actually stay on the Similan Islands rather than on the boat! This gives the best of both worlds - the isolated beaches and the great diving

Staying in Tents on these beaches is truly memorable. White Sand under your feet, cold beer in your hand and the sun setting over the Andaman sea

Of course this is all opinion.
